Just as beer is the traditional drink in Bavaria, cider is favored by Hessian citizens.
Locally produced cider has an alcholic content of about 5.5%.
It’s served from a “Bembel” jug into a “Gerippte,” the classic ribbed cider glass, and is drunk at a cool 10-12° C.
About 40 million liters of cider are produced every year in the state of Hesse.
