Not only trade fair visitors and tourists come to Köln – 18 percent of the 585,000 citizens are from abroad.
The cultural influence of foreigners is visible in Little-Tokio at the central station or in the large number of international restaurants and book stores.
Their range of products goes from russian newspapers to japanese comics.

In 2007 14,290 of the 37,172 new citizens were people from other countries.
In comparison only 33,521 people were leaving Düsseldorf. Turkish (15,017) and greek (10,464) nationals like the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia the most, followed by 6,835 Italians and 6,595 citizens of Serbia and Montenegro as well as 6,499 people from Poland. The British (2,378) and Spanish (2,934) rather account for the minority.

However, other continents besides Europe are also represented in Düsseldorf. Around 5,035 Moroccans, 4,978 Japanese and 1,610 Chinese have made the city their home.
That´s why there are numerous consulates attending to the concerns of newcomers from abroad.
