Utilities in Munich: Electricity, Gas and Heating
Anyone moving to Munich will eventually need to arrange their utility services. While water and district heating are generally supplied by Stadtwerke München (SWM), residents can choose from a range of providers for electricity and natural gas.
Stadtwerke München – the city’s main utility provider
Stadtwerke München (SWM) is one of Germany’s largest municipal utility companies and supplies a large proportion of Munich households with electricity, natural gas, district heating and drinking water. For water and district heating, there is often no alternative provider available.
For electricity and gas, however, consumers can choose between various suppliers and tariff options. In addition to SWM, companies such as E.ON, Yello, Eprimo, LichtBlick and Montana operate in the Munich market. As tariffs and conditions change regularly, comparing offers can be worthwhile.
