Allianz Arena – Munich’s illuminated landmark

The Allianz Arena is one of Europe’s most famous football stadiums and has long since become one of Munich’s landmarks. Since opening in 2005, its spectacular façade of illuminated air cushions has shaped the skyline in the north of the Bavarian capital.

Today, the arena is home to FC Bayern Munich and regularly hosts top-level national and international football matches. Its modern architecture, impressive match-day atmosphere and excellent transport connections make it a popular destination for football fans from around the world.

One of the stadium’s most distinctive features is its outer shell, which can be illuminated in different colours. Visible from afar, the Allianz Arena ranks among Munich’s most photographed buildings.

In addition to Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League matches, the stadium regularly hosts international fixtures and major sporting events. Highlights include matches during the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2024.

Even on non-match days, the Allianz Arena is worth a visit. Guided stadium tours provide fascinating behind-the-scenes insights, while the FC Bayern Museum tells the story of Germany’s most successful football club.
