Public transportation Frankfurt
The Frankfurt and Rhein-Main transportation network
mobil_kl.jpgIn Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main area, S-Bahns (commuter trains) and U-Bahns (subways), regional trains, buses and trams combine to provide an intergrated public transportation network. No matter where you want to go, you only need one ticket. The 153 transport companies in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV; Rhein-Main transportation network) have an integrated fare system. For example, not only all of Frankfurt, but neighboring districts such as the Main-Taunus district or Darmstadt-Dieburg, as well as many cities such as Wiesbaden, Offenbach, Fulda, Marburg, Ruesselsheim and Mainz are in the RMV network.

On an average workday, the companies within the RMV take care of about 1.9 million single rides. More than 600 million passengers are transported every year.

More than 310,000 commuters travel every day from outside Frankfurt to work in the city. The Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF; Frankfurt am Main transportation network), which runs seven U-Bahn lines, nine tram lines and 42 bus lines in the city, operates more than 40% of the RMV services. The nine Frankfurt S-Bahn lines are operated by DB Regio, a subsidiary of the Deutsche Bahn (German Rail).

Within Frankfurt, the local transport company traffiQ, created in 2001 by the city, is responsible for monitoring, planning and financing local public transportation. traffiQ also provides extensive information and tips for passengers in the Internet, on a hotline and personally in the Verkehrsinsel information center.
