Europe is our future! Frankfurt knew that 10 years ago and began planning the Europa quarter, one of the city’s most significant developments, which has been taking shape since 2006 on the site of the former railway goods yard west of Frankfurt’s city center between the districts of Bockenheim and Gallus.

Much has already been completed on the 145-hectare site, where 10,000 people will work and 3,000 people will live when it’s finished in 2019. In the eastern part, which belongs to Vivico Real Estate GmbH, the Mövenpick Hotel Frankfurt City and a branch of the Meininger hotel chain have opened. In addition, there are quite a few new and imposing residential and office buildings along Europa-Allee. Important elements of the eastern part are also the 50-floor Tower 185, which will be completed at the end of 2011. It will be the Europa quarter’s gateway, along with the adjacent SkylinePlaza shopping and conference center.

In the area west of the Emser Brücke, which is the responsibility of the Aurelis Real Estate GmbH, the plan is for mainly homes, schools and childcare centers. Providing a green lung will be the Europagarten park, which will have 6 hectares of space for leisure and relaxation. Most of the park will be ready for use in early 2011.

Furthermore, Frankfurt has less living space per person than other western German cities, while rents are the second highest after Munich.

Rental prices in Frankfurt
wohnung1According to the German Realtors’ Federation (Immobilienverband Deutschland - IVD), Frankfurt is one of the ten most expensive cities in Germany for property rental. But it’s only in third place in the Rhein-Main region. Rents are higher in Wiesbaden and Bad Homburg, where tenants must dig more deeply into their pockets than anywhere else in the country.
